Social media accounts from Afghanistan, India being used to malign Pakistan: Moeed
ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser Moeed Yousuf on Wednesday said that government's social media teams and think tanks have gathered evidence showing social media accounts from Afghanistan and India were being used repeatedly to malign Pakistan
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad along with Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, Moeed said that the government would keep presenting analytics-based data to show the "information warfare" being faced by Pakistan.
Moeed said that PTM run 150 anti-state trends on social media to spread baseless propaganda against Pakistan, led by India. He said that the biggest players of this campaign in Pakistan are the PTM and its workers.
Moeed Yousaf said there are efforts to blame Pakistan for all the failures in the 20-year-long war in Afghanistan.
He said that as US troops began to withdraw from Afghanistan and the Taliban took control of cities and provincial capitals, there was a growing narrative against Pakistan with the aim to save themselves from being blamed for their own failures".
"We will expose all these truths, not through fake news but through data and facts. We will form a narrative to tell the world what is being done with Pakistan," he said.
According to NSA Yusuf, the five top themes used by the elements involved in the propaganda are as following:
- Discredit the Pakistani government and especially Pakistan Army
- Fan sub-nationalism
- Target the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)
- Keep Pakistan on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list
- Blame Pakistan for all the chaos in Afghanistan
Speaking on the occasion Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said that two years of data has revealed that all anti-Pakistan trends on social media were started by Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) and was getting support from India.
Fawad Chaudhry said that according to DisinfoLab, 845 websites were used against Pakistan adding anti-Pakistan campaign was started by the PTM and received support from India.
Minister said Karima Baloch s death was a top trend, even though she was a Canadian citizen and she died of natural causes. He said that the PTM tweeted 20,000 times that Pakistan had killed Karima Baloch. A trend was also started regarding Zulfi Bukhari s visit to Israel, he added.
