Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said Pakistan stood “for peace” and “we have nothing to gain from conflict".

In a message on Twitter on Tuesday, the federal minister said: “In fact, it is the Kabul government that needs to answer for the daily instances of terrorism in Pakistan sponsored and coordinated from Afghanistan.”

He said that “everyone knows that people like Hamdullah works for whom...”

The federal minister’s tweet came after a Pentagon press briefing in which the US accused Pakistan of managing safe heavens at the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan which posed a threat to security and it said that Pakistanis were also being victimized from the terrorist activities.

“And we're mindful that — those safe havens are only providing a source of more insecurity, more instability inside Afghanistan,” said Pentagon Press Secretary John F Kirby on Monday, while giving a press briefing.

Kirby went on to say that Pakistanis also became victims of the terrorists activities emerged from the bordering areas.

He said Washington and Islamabad were in continuous dialogue to remove those heavens, keeping in mind that “the Pakistani people also [are] — fall victim to terrorist activities that emanate from that same region.”

The Pentagon press secretary further said that the US officials concurred with Pakistani side to close those “safe heavens” and agreed not to allow the Taliban and other terrorist networks to operate from there.

"So, we're all — we all have a shared sense of — of the importance of closing down those safe havens and — and not allowing them to be used by the Taliban or other terrorist networks to sow discord," he said.
