In an attempt to put an end to the speculations about revisions in party policy, Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan Muslim League-N’s struggle was not about winning few seats but to win freedom from the clutches of “transgressors of the Constitution”.

The former prime minister took to Twitter to reiterate that the party wanted to stand on the right side of the history without compromising on its self-respect.

The deposed prime minister has been in London since November 2019 for medical treatment.

Nawaz’s remarks came after the interview of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif aired on Geo in which he talked about political reconciliation for the benefits of masses.

During the interview, Shehbaz refuted the rumours of leaving the position of the party’s president which surfaced due to the two narratives — termed as “N” and “S”, referring to Nawaz and Shehbaz respectively — prevailing side by side within the party and representing resistance and reconciliation.

“If we are to take this country forward, we have to rise above our personal likes and dislikes,” said the PML-N president.

After back-to-back defeat in Sialkot by-election and AJK polls in which the PML-N bagged six seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly, the former prime minister categorically stated that the party’s stance had not changed.

In his tweets, Nawaz wondered how the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf bagged 26 seats by securing 0.6 million votes against the opposition party which secured 6 seats with a total of 0.5 million votes.

“Who will believe on this kind of victory?” he said.

He further said the manner through which AJK and Sialkot by-polls results were achieved had come to light before the election day. “In this regard, more facts will be uncovered in the upcoming days,” he added.
