Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has encouraged women to give cricket a try. In a video shared by Sky News on Monday, the 24-year-old from Swat, who survived a Taliban attack in 2012, tells the interviewer that she wants to encourage young women to pick up a bat and ball.

She said women sports players send a positive message of encouragement; one's gender shouldn't prevent one from participating in sports.

"Even today, when we see women cricket players playing in this stadium, they are sending a message to all girls out there that they can be in sports, they can be players, they can play any sport they want,” Malala says in the video.

She added that women are changing history everywhere, including in sports.

Last week the activist posted on Instagram about loving to play cricket herself.

As has come to happen when news of Malala appears in Pakistan, people take to Twitter to condemn her and call her an agent of the west.
