Budget 2021-22: PTI MNA from Karachi to boycott the session

Ruling Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Abdul Shakoor Shad has announced to boycott today's budget session, local media reported Friday.

According to the details, PTI MNA from NA-246 (Karachi South-I) will not be attending the budget session to be convened at 4:00 pm today.

Speaking to Aaj News, Shad said he had requested a special package for Lyari from Prime Minister Imran Khan in the budget but was denied.

"I will not attend the budget session," the PTI lawmaker said and added, "The federal government has no interest in issues related to Sindh and Karachi."

Shad said the Sindh government has announced to include a development package for the area in the upcoming provincial budget, despite losing the elections.

The representative from Lyari had written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan on 3rd June, requesting him to allocate budget for the construction of a sports complex, NADRA Mega Centre, parks, CC pavers in the internal streets, provision of water supply lines, and other development projects that have been neglected in the past.

MNA's remarks came after Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah on Saturday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan saying the federal government is treating Sindh in an unfair manner by ignoring development projects proposed by the provincial government.

Murad — in a strong-worded letter — complained that the center is showing a discriminatory attitude towards Sindh even in the proposed new Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

However, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Sunday rebuked accusations levelled against the PTI government and affirmed the centre’s commitment to development projects in Sindh.

In a video statement, the federal minister said "I think the chief minister is confused because he is unable to distinguish between the people of Sindh and the government of Sindh. Chief minister, sir, you may be the government of Sindh but you are not the people of Sindh. And we will spend on the people of Sindh, not on the government of Sindh".
