Federal Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati has announced his ministry will give 1.5 million rupees to each family of the deceased who died in Monday's Ghotki train accident.

Talking to newsmen in Lahore today, Swati said those who sustained injuries will receive between 50,000 to 300,000 rupees.

At least 65 people died and 100 were injured in a train collision between Raiti and Daharaki train stations.

Swati said an independent investigation into the train accident will be conducted and those responsible will not be spared.

The federal Minister for Railways said he was present at the scene till the rescue operation was completed while army helicopters participated in shifting the injured people to hospitals.
