Multan: On Tuesday night, Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar announced that from tomorrow his government is going to kickstart the 'Sehat Insaf Card' scheme from Dera Ghazi Khan and Sahiwal divisions. Thanks to this huge scheme, 100% of the population of the above-mentioned districts will be able to acquire health insurance of Rs. 720,000/ annum.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, the CM wrote:

Alhamdulillah, from tomorrow, 100% of the population of 7 districts of Dera Ghazi Khan and Sahiwal division. Free health insurance of up to Rs. 720,000 will be available and by the end of this year, every citizen of Punjab will have this facility.

Buzdar further added:

Prime Minister Imran Khan will formally start providing this revolutionary facility from Layyah tomorrow!

With this initiative, the Punjab government becomes the second province to provide health coverage to the public as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has already done it earlier this year. While the Punjab government has started its health insurance program, the KP government has already covered the entire provincial population in the health insurance scheme.

The federal government has also promised the residents of Islamabad and Gilgit Baltistan that they will also be able to benefit from the health coverage scheme soon.

Explaining the Punjab government's initiative, one of the spokesmen of the provincial government Azhar Mashwani disclosed that the regular launch of Universal Health Coverage from two divisions of Punjab will begin on 26th May. The 7 districts of 2 divisions covered by the scheme are as follows:

Dera Ghazi Khan Division
- Dera Ghazi Khan District
- Muzaffargarh District
- Rajanpur District
- Layyah District

Sahiwal Division
- Sahiwal District
- Okara District
- Pakpattan District

The young spokesman further added that from tomorrow, the identity card of the citizens of these districts will be their health insurance card. Explaining the reason behind the choice of these two districts as the first ones to get coverage, Mashwani tweeted:

Most of the population in these divisions had received health cards, so universal health coverage was started from Sahiwal and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had tasked the Buzdar administration to make sure by the end of this year the whole province can avail of this incredible facility. Let's hope the government is able to pull it off. But surely the initiation of the program from two of the most underprivileged divisions tells us that the government is on the right path.
