ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has reacted to the verdict of Lahore High Court (LHC), granting permission to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif to travel abroad for medical treatment.

In a series of tweets, Fawad Chaudhry said that Shehbaz Sharif is involved in money laundering worth billions while allowing him to travel abroad is like joking with the law.

Even a panchayat did not pronounce the verdict in such a haste as the LHC has done in this case, he tweeted. “The court’s sanctioning of his flight abroad will be very unfortunate,” he said, and added, “Earlier the same person had acted as a guarantor in former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s case. But the question is what has become of that guarantee? Has Nawaz returned home?”

The information minister further said the government would utilize all legal options against the LHC verdict. “Prime Minister Imran Khan, on several occasions, has already pointed out flaws in our legal system. But sadly the opposition is not ready to cooperate with the government in order to remove these flaws. And the reason for that is that opposition parties’ own vested interests were linked to the status quo,” he regretted.

Earlier in the day, the Lahore High Court (LHC) gave one-time permission to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif to go abroad for medical treatment.

The Lahore High Court in its conditional permission allowed Shahbaz Sharif to go abroad from May 08 to July 05.

The court in its six-page written order said that Shahbaz could not be barred from travelling abroad even if his name is on the blacklist. His name is currently not on the ECL, the court said in its order while adjourning the hearing of the case for July 05. NNI
