COVID-19: Schools in Sindh to suspend on-campus activities for two weeks starting April 6

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani on Sunday has announced that all private and government schools across the province will remain closed for two weeks amid the raging third wave of coronavirus.

The provincial education minister announced the decision on Twitter.

“Due to the worsening coronavirus situation, Sindh Education Department has decided to suspend on-campus activities for primary classes and below for fifteen days from April 6,” he said and added that online activities, homework, and other means can be used to teach children.

Sindh government announced the decision hours after Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood had shared that a decision regarding further closure or opening of educational institutes will be taken on April 6th.

The federal minister shared that decision will be taken by the mutual consensus of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) and the education department. Whatever the decision may be, it will be a collective decision, he further added.

COVID-19 situation in Pakistan:

The third wave of COVID-19 is proving to be more deadly and infectious as per the NCOC. Pakistan on Sunday reported the highest number of critical patients admitted to hospital since the pandemic began a year ago.

The reported national positivity has also surged up. Pakistan has reported 5,020 new confirmed cases, 81 deaths, and a positivity ratio of 9.02% in the last 24 hours.
