Responsibility to create enabling environment for dialogue lies with India: FM Qureshi
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday has said that Pakistan will not shy away from dialogue if India reviews its policy and expresses readiness for a peaceful solution to all issues including the Kashmir dispute, reported Radio Pakistan.
In a statement, the foreign minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan soon after assuming office had offered to take two steps towards peace if India takes one. However, the responsibility to create enabling environment for dialogue lies with India now.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi added that re-enforcement of the ceasefire agreement after talks between the DG Military Operations of both countries is a positive development.
It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan and India in February decided to recommit themselves to the 2003 ceasefire arrangement at the Line of Control and agreed to address the ‘core issues’ that could undermine peace and stability.
The foreign minister's statement came a day after Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said Pakistan is ready to resolve all outstanding disputes with its neighbors through dialogue in a dignified and peaceful manner.
While addressing the Islamabad Security Dialogue in the federal capital on Thursday, the Army Chief said it is time that synergies are created in South Asia through connectivity, peaceful coexistence, and resource sharing to fight hunger, illiteracy, and disease instead of fighting each other.
COAS, however, stressed that this choice is deliberate and based on rationality, and not as a result of any pressure.
