Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an 11-party opposition alliance against the ruling Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI), on Tuesday, announced to postponed much-hyped long march planned for 26 March as rifts emerge in the alliance over submission of en-mass resignations.

The decision came after the PDM leadership met today (Tuesday) in Islamabad to finalize their future strategy to oust the current government. JUI-F and PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman briefed the media about the decision taken in the meeting.

While addressing the media Fazlur Rehman said that the opposition alliance discussed issues of the long march and en-mass resignations in the meeting today. And opposition could not reach a mutual consensus as PPP expressed their reservations over the two being linked and have sought time to respond.

"They will hold a meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and will get back to us," the JUI-F chief said and added before abruptly leaving, "Until then, the long march must be considered postponed."

PPP leader and newly elected Senator Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani also addressed the media. While speaking on behalf of the PPP, he said that PPP will be in a position to take a decision on the submission of resignations from the National and Provincial assemblies after consulting with CEC.

PML-N's vice president Maryam Nawaz refused to comment on the proceedings.

The PDM leadership met today in Islamabad to discuss and review the future strategy of PDM, current political situation of the country after Senate polls upset and controversies.
