Ruling political party Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Thursday announced that it has expelled two of its members for allegedly being involved in horse-trading in Senate elections held on March 3rd.

According to the details, Two members of Sindh Provincial Assembly (MPAs) Aslam Abro and Sheharyar Sher have been expelled from the party for violating the code of conduct by the party's standing committee on discipline and accountability in Sindh

The standing committee said that both the expelled members were given the opportunity to offer an explanation of their actions. However, in the presence of conclusive evidence and the absence of a satisfactory explanation, the decision to sack both members was taken.

The committee also recommended to the leadership to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against the two former members to have them de-seated from the provincial assembly as well.

On March 3, the ruling party faced a set back when its candidate from Islamabad Abdul Hafeez Sheikh lost against the Pakistan Democratic Movement's (PDM) joint candidate Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani.

According to the polling count, PPP’s runner had bagged 169 NA votes against Hafeez’s 164, whereas, a total of seven votes was rendered rejected in the assembly.

Gillani's victory was made controversial after a video of Ali Haider Gillani, son of the Senate Chairman candidate, surfaced on media allegedly trying to buy votes.
