PM underscores need for measures to stop stealing wealth from developing countries
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday underscored the need for drastic measures to stop stealing wealth from developing countries.
In his virtual address to the International Fund for Agricultural Development’s governing council meeting, PM Imran termed agriculture a basic need for human survival.
He maintained that they needed to take joint and revolutionary steps for the future and warned that there could be a catastrophe if the world does not take action now.
Presenting his five-point agenda, the Prime Minister said the sustainable agricultural infrastructure will facilitate transport, production and distribution of agricultural inputs and food products.
He said the so-called "magic of the market place" should be balanced by the very visible hand of the State to ensure adequate and fair prices of agri products.
The Prime Minister said the new agricultural technologies and techniques must be consciously applied to enhance food production.
He said the adoption of digital technologies is as vital in agriculture as in other economic sectors.
Underlining the need for re-thinking on patterns of food consumption and production, Imran Khan said we can eat better and many of us would do well to eat less. He said we can stop the pollution and also produce more with less water, and without dangerous chemicals.
He also proposed that a new strategy for sustainable food production and consumption should be considered and adopted at the Food Systems Summit next year.
