A record single-day rise in global coronavirus cases reported
Another day, another grim coronavirus milestone!
Yesterday, a record single-day rise in new coronavirus cases was reported globally as over 413,000 people tested positive for the virus. While more than 6,100 people died during the last 24 hours due to Covid-related reasons.
The pneumonia-like illness causing virus is still uncontrolled in several regions of the world. The United States, India, Brazil, and Russia are the worst-hit countries by the virus in terms of the number of infections. But more alarming news is that the European countries that had flattened the COVID curve successfully are once again being devastated by the flu bug as a record rise in new cases is seen in France, Germany, United Kingdom, and Spain.
The total number of coronavirus cases is approaching a staggering 40 million and the total deaths have exceeded 1.1 million. At this point, the only hope for humanity is the rapid development and widespread availability of a COVID-19 vaccine.
With several vaccine trials in the third phase of clinical trials and global health bodies claiming that it will take at least 6-12 months before a coronavirus vaccine is available in the market, one can only wonder what the coronavirus tallies will look like by then and how many times the record of daily new cases or deaths will be broken.
