Recently, the newly reported coronavirus cases have decreased significantly in the capital of Pakistan.

Last month, the number was surging and on average more than 700 new cases were being reported. Then the government authorities implemented the 'Smart Lockdown' and the results are showing its effectiveness in curtailing the new viral disease. Nowadays, 100-200 new cases are being reported daily. The difference is quite clear.

As of today, there have been 13,195 COVID infections in Islamabad and 129 of these people have succumbed to the disease. The number of recovered patients is 8,264.

Federal minister for planning Asad Umar who also heads the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) tweeted today regarding the success of capital's administration in containing the virus.

He wrote:

"Islamabad new corona cases were more than 700/day in mid-june. Yesterday 113 only. Positivity down to 5% yesterday and in single digits for the last few days consistently. Very good work done by district administration, police & health dept but most of all citizens of Islamabad."

Islamabad saw a surge in corona cases after Eid-ul-Fitr as the lockdown was lifted and businesses were reopened. Responding to the spread of the virus in much of the city, local administration started sealing the COVID hotspots like certain markets and residential areas. This move has brought positive results.
