In the last 24 hours, the newly reported COVID-19 cases in the US hit new one-day high as 40,184 people tested positive for the virus.

The United States has been the most adversely affected country by coronavirus pandemic. It has been the leading country with most COVID-19 cases for several weeks now. According to the stats provided by Johns Hopkins University, the total number of cases in the US has already exceeded 2.5 million with over 127,000 people losing their life battle against the viral disease.

On Thursday, the US reported its highest one-day tally of new cases eclipsing the record first set on 24th April when 39,099 cases were reported in 24 hours. This news has shaken the government and several states are mulling over backtracking or at least pausing the reopening of businesses.

US President Donald Trump and his government have long been bashed by critics for their delayed and non-serious approach against COVID-19 despite repeated warnings by public health experts and epidemiologists. Previously, New York and New Jersey were the epicenters of the disease in the US but now a surge in new cases is seen in California, Florida. and Texas.

Health experts and officials have blamed large gatherings where people aren't wearing masks and violating the government's guidelines regarding social distancing as the main reason for the resurgence of the virus in the US. As lockdown restrictions were eased, Americans started taking the disease lightly and ignoring the SOPs. Also, one big factor is the riots that took place in several states after an African American named George Floyd was brutally killed in Minneapolis by a police officer.

US health experts have said that the spike in new cases is alarming as the country is still a few weeks away from reaching its COVID-19 peak. Also, the country's death tally is expected to increase in the coming weeks. So it's safe to say that Trump's problems are nowhere near over yet.
