MNA Munir Orakzai Dies Of Cardiac Arrest Days After Recovering From COVID-19

Today, Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Munir Khan Orakzai died of cardiac arrest in Kurram Agency, just couple of weeks after recovering from COVID-19.

It was reported that Munir, 60, had tested positive for the novel coronavirus in April but made a full recovery and last tested negative on May 8. According to his family, they tried to wake him up for morning prayers today but he didn't respond, upon which he was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The funeral prayers of the deceased were offered in the afternoon in his native village Manduri in District Kurram. He is survived by his wife, five daughters and a son.

MNA belonging to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) hailed from Kurram district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (previously: FATA) and was elected to NA-45 in the 2018 elections. He had also been a member of the national legislative assembly from 2002 to 2013.

Prominent state officials and politicians expressed grief over his demise.

President Arif Alvi expressed "grief and sorrow" and prayed for the departed soul and commiserated with the bereaved family.
Dr. Alvi further said:
"The political services of the late leader will be remembered."

Prime Minister Imran Khan also expressed sadness over Munir's death. In a tweet, the premier's Special Assistant on Political Communication Dr. Shehbaz Gill said that PM Khan conveyed his condolences to the deceased lawmaker's family.

Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri also expressed deep grief and sorrow over his passing.

KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan also expressed grief on Munir's death. In his condolence message, the CM prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and patience for the grieving family.
