5 Ways To Be Kind To Yourself | Self-Care

Quite often, we become our worst critic, we don't forgive ourselves and fixate our existence on the mistakes that we made. It's easy to forgive others, we can give them benefit of doubt but when it comes to forgiving ourselves, we don't seem to let go our blunders.

We know our shortcomings and our dark secrets, so we tend to outweigh them more often and the vicious cycle of self doubt and self hatred continues.

According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, he gives number of needs which motivate people for life. Those needs are classified into two types, one type includes all the deficiency needs and the other includes growth needs.

Deficiency needs are a necessity while growth needs are superior needs, achieved by only few. In deficiency needs, he gave the need of self esteem a top notch priority.

In therapy, the clients are taught self compassion statements which they are supposed to tell themselves whenever they are having a hard time. These might include the following,

The greatest treasure we have is time, it is important to allocate time for yourself.  Take time to read your favorite books or a hobby you wanted to continue for so long but couldn't somehow. Make room for 'ME TIME' in your calendar.

Engage with the world

When we nullify ourselves, we assume that the world nullifies us too but it's not true. People need to be heard and are supposed to be taken care of. Meet your friends and relatives, volunteer in some program. The world needs you.
