With the lockdown ending after several weeks, many people are worried that they may have gained weight and are out of shape. Because of the fact that in this period, people weren't able to leave their house and also gyms were closed, so there was minimum activity available.

Obesity and being overweight were already big concerns of our population and with the Corona situation, the general population has become more unhealthy and unfit. People have adapted unhealthy lifestyles instead of going for healthy ones. According to stats, nearly half of women report gaining weight during the lockdown.

The Atkins diet

This diet is named after Dr. Robert C Atkins, the proponent of low carbohydrate diet. In this diet, there is no crash diet or starvation, simply you just have to avoid carbs. The protein and fat intake is as usual but carbs are cut out. In this way the body uses fats and proteins to metabolize rather than carbs.  The intake of proteins and fats will reduce the appetite consequently. In Atkins diet, the carbs are first decreased, then the intake is increased to reach a perfect balance. With trial and error, the adequate amount of carbs intake is find out which is maintained for the whole life. Sugar, legumes, vegetable oils, starches, trans fats are avoided while meats, eggs, vegetables, nuts and healthy fats are recommended. This diet however is not advised for people with high cholesterol levels.

 The Ketogenic Diet

This diet was first developed for children with epilepsy. The keto diet, much like Atkins diet is low carbs diet. The only difference being, the intake of carbs in keto diet is decreased gradually. In this diet, the carbs are cut out to 5% of your daily intake. As a result of low carbs intake and high protein intake, the body will go under a metabolic state, ketosis. Following this diet, you body will become efficient in utilizing fats for energy. Keto diet is recommended for people with heart diseases.

In any case, the diet will work as long as you have persistence and willpower. Once you have chosen a diet plan, it is recommended to stick to it unless there is any health issue involved. But it must be said that it's always recommended to consult a nutritionist before choosing a diet.
