ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) on Monday has rejected the petition filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to postpone the hearing of Hudaibia Papers Mill case against Sharif family until appointment of its prosecutor general, Aaj News reported.

As the hearing commenced. the SC bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam and comprising of Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Mazhar Alam rejected NAB's application to postponed the case hearing stating that, the appointment of a new prosecutor general has nothing to do with the case.

The position of NAB prosecutor has been vacant since Waqas Qadeer Dar retired in November.

On September 20 of this year, NAB filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the LHC's 2014 decision to squash Hudaibiya Papers Mill case, naming former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his brothers Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and late Abbas Sharif, their mother Shamim Akhter, Shehbaz's son and MNA Hamza Shehbaz, Nawaz's daughter Maryam, and others as respondents.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, who is a close aide and relative of the Sharifs, had given a confessional statement back in 2000 before a magistrate, accepting that Sharif brothers setup the Hudaibiya Paper Mills for money laundering during late 1990s.

However Dar later draw back from his statement and accused that the statement was enforced upon him.
