Food items that you shouldn't wash before cooking

WEB DESK: Food items like meat, vegetables, fruits should be washed before consuming or cooking. It is a general thing we have grown seeing our adults do religiously. A good wash can remove all the dirt and germs from them and food items become saver to eat/cook. 

However, there are still certain items that we wash but we shouldn't.

Chicken

Fresh chicken has a very dangerous bacteria on it. It is well-known as salmonella. It is considered that a good wash can solve this issue but it is not true. By washing it, this bacteria is actually spread all over the sink and on your hands too. The right way is to cook chicken right away, this way bacteria will die. Some chefs prefers to boil chicken before cooking and it is safe to boil it twice in different water.

Meat

Like chicken, washing meat is another a common practice in every household. The way to get rid from bacteria is to cook meat on higher temperature.

Safety Tip: Always wipe meat juice with napkins. And, wash hands right away with soap and hot water.

Eggs

There is a special substance present on eggs to protect them from the bacteria contamination. It can be destroyed with water. Therefore, it suggested not to wash eggs.

Pasta

According to chefs washing pasta should be illegal because it removes the starch that helps it to absorb the sauce. It should only be washed after boiling.

Fruits and vegetables with edible skin

Washing fruits and vegetables with edible skin is essential, even if they are looking clean and shiny.

Tin cans

Tin cans are easy and quick to use. Plus, the bacteria can’t get inside, due to the lid. It is suggested to wash tin can carefully or else bacteria might get in.

Fruits and vegetables with inedible skin

Peeling these fruits and vegetables won't enough as bacteria can get on the edible part of them. It is recommended to wash bananas, melons, and watermelons always before eating.

Nuts

Consuming nuts after a good wash is necessary because we don't know how they packed or stored. Also, these nuts contains phytic acid which is used to prevent them from parasites but it can harm human body as well.

Dried fruit

These dried fruits are considered most dirty. It is said because they are being sold by weight. However, if you bought good quality ones, you still need to wash or soak them for few hours.
