Letter: The challenge of power outages
Although the minister of water and power, Khawaja Asif, has made so many explanations with regard to improvement in power generation and supply, the fact remains that the country is again in the grip of unusual power load-shedding in urban and rural areas with 6-8 and 12 hours outages due to a massive gap between demand and supply.
There is no doubt about the fact that a sudden rise in temperature and substantial reduction in hydel generation are responsible for the current spurt in electricity load-shedding. The government, however, was required to take into consideration the universal phenomenon of global warming. It ought to have set its targets aimed at eliminating the menace of load-shedding in accordance with the profundity of rising temperature challenge.-Business Recorder
