WEB DESK: Bollywood celebrities are known to live luxurious lives, in a glamorous manner. But did you know that many of these celebrities are also known to be famous philanthropists? According to MTV India, these actors believe in giving away as much as they believe in earning it.

Salman Khan

Salman Khan's famous charitable organization, Being Human has been serving the needy children in many ways. The actor supports three schools, and also help the needy children who can not afford to pay their medical bills. He also helped initiate the heart surgery for more than 600 kids.

Aishwarya Rai

Former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai seems to be working on her vows till now, as she has helped many in need. Aishwarya has donated her beautiful eyes to the Eye Bank Association of India. Aishwarya is also the brand ambassador of Smile Train, which helps provide cleft lip surgery to those in need. Aishwarya pledged to provide for 100 cleft surgeries in 2014.

Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan is rightfully known as King Khan, as he helps the wishes of children with fatal diseases come true. Khan is a board member of the famous organization, Make A Wish foundation. The actor is always in news for making hefty donations to those in need. Recently, the actor and his Dilwale team donated Rs. 1 crore to the Chennai flood victims.Adding to this, SRK was appointed as the first global ambassador of UNOPS, which works to improve the lifestyle of people. SRK is also the first Indian to be recognized by UNESCO for his charitable works.

 

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan is a silent knight when it comes to charity and donates big amounts without flaunting it. In 2013, the actor donated Rs. 25 lakhs to the Uttarakhand flood victims and even initiated a campaign to encourage others to donate. Last year, the actor donated Rs. 11 lakh to the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ rural water conservation programme. The actor is also the Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and continues to help those in need with everything he’s got.

For Akshay Kumar charity is worship, which is why the actor has donated Rs. 90 lakhs to drought-hit farmers in Maharashtra. When asked to say something about this act of his, the actor dismissed it saying that talking about charity is embarrassing and stupid. Can’t help but love his modesty!

The ‘Big Brother’ winner donated her entire winning amount to the AIDS campaign in India. She is an active member of PETA and an anti-bullying charity campaign called ‘Act Against Bullying’.

Priyanka was appointed UNICEF’s National Ambassador in 2010 and now has a long standing association with the ‘Save the Girl’ campaign by UNICEF.
