Mukhtaran Mai to walk on Fashion Pakistan Week

WEB DESK: Mukhtaran Mai's name is unknown to none, as she is an epitome of courage and braveryÂ after the gang rape incident in 2002. She has recently agreed to walk the ramp for the first time for Rozina Monib in Fashion Pakistan Week 2016.

â€œI am walking the ramp to spread awareness about the struggles women go through. This is for the women in my society, it is for those who have no one and no place to go to,â€ Mukhtaran toldÂ a local newspaper.

When asked why she chose this particular platform, Mukhtaran Bibi had a warm response. She graciously said, â€œAll that I do, I do it for my children (at the shelter) and women. This is for them. I canâ€™t do this alone hence I found an anchor in the media to help spread my message.â€

â€œJinka koi nahi hota unka Allah hota hai, aur main sirf zariya banna chahti hoon.â€ [Those who donâ€™t have anyone, have Allah. I just want to be able to provide them with what they deserve and more.]

â€œWhen I see my girls passing matriculation examinations, attending universities, I feel like everything I have worked for is worth the salt. Meray bachay aur meri behnain mera rang hain,â€ she said.Â

Talking to the designer who decided to take make the effort, Monib told a local newspaper, "The purpose behind bringing Mukhtaran Mai to Karachi and making her a part of my show is to tell her story so that it gives courage to other women. I could have easily gone down the typical route of paying a celebrity to be part of my show. I just felt that it would be so much better to spend the same money on a cause that was close to my heart,"
