In an unprecedented move, Mutahhida Qaumi Movement (MQM), suspending its relief activities, has decided not to collect hides of sacrificial animals this year.

Speaking to the newsmen at his house, chief of MQM Pakistan Dr Farooq Sattar said party has decided to halt welfare activities in Sindh and will not collect animals' skin on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha.

"We have been accused of snatching hides in previous years thus MQM would reorganize its welfare arm - Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF)," Dr Sattar told reporters.

Sharing the statistics, Sattar said that KKF had been providing relief to families of MQM's deceased workers with Rs 4 to 5 million every month. He said that MQM spends Rs 10 million every month under the head of welfare activities.

"We are in a process to scrutinize our volunteers working with KKF," he said, adding MQM was also restrained from collecting Zakat and Fitra donations in the month of Ramazan.

MQM is suspending all welfare activities, he continued, and providing an opportunity to welfare organization to collect donations. The MQM leader said people who earlier donated animal hides and other donations to the party should now donate these to welfare organizations.

He said that KKF's welfare activities are meant to support the marginalized segment of the society and its activities are not hidden from anyone. He said that KKF also worked selflessly during national disasters such as earthquake and floods.
