Summer camp for children in regional languages starts at Lok Virsa

ISLAMABAD: A month-long summer camp for children (age 6-12 years) in regional languages Sindhi and Pashto started here at Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology, Lok Virsa.

Executive Director Lok Virsa Dr. Fouzia Saeed said that Lok Virsa encouraged by the tremendous success of the first summer camp in Balochi and Wakhi languages held last year.

She said that the objective of the camp is to create ownership among children regarding Pakistan’s languages and cultural heritage, to provide them an orientation about Sindhi and Pashtoon cultures and to re-affirm our identity of being multi-cultural and pluralistic country.

“They will also learn about poetry, music and festivals of both the communities,” she said.

Dr. Fouzia Saeed said that apart from informal learning of languages, the children will also be encouraged to participate in practical activities like folk singing, music, craft making, painting, etc.

The artists and artisans will share their experiences with them during the summer camp.

According to Lok Virsa, twenty children are taking part in the summer camp which shows that the parents have welcomed the initiative launched by Lok Virsa.

The summer camp daily start from 10 am to 2 pm. The children will be taught about language, culture, arts and craft.
The summer camp includes 15-day classes, a two-day workshop and 3-day educational visits to the museums including Pakistan Monuments.

Lok Virsa officials said that children are encouraged to take part in this exciting activity to learn Sindhi and Pashto languages, adding that registrations are open and per child charges are 3000rs/- only, including refreshments.
