Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has decided to adopt a 'wait and watch' policy towards filing a petition in the Supreme Court under Article 184 (3) with a reference to the Panama papers against the Prime Minister, his children and parliamentarians who fall within the ambit of Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

On May 14, 2016, urging the Supreme Court to take suo motu action, the PBC had stated that there is one case which deserves action under Article 184 (3) - the case of Panama papers.

Chairman Executive Committee PBC Abdul Fayaz stated that if the Supreme Court fails to take suo moto notice then the PBC would invoke the court's jurisdiction through a petition after 15 days.

Talking to Business Recorder on Saturday, a member of the PBC, Muhammad Maqsood Buttar, said the Council will hold its Executive Committee's meeting in mid-August to take a final decision on filing a petition.

Buttar however maintained that the PBC plans to carry out a campaign "Say no to corruption once and for all" without giving any impression that the present body is against the incumbent government.

Another member of the PBC, Kamran Murtaza, who is also former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, said the incumbent leadership of the PBC will never file any petition in the Supreme Court.

"If they were serious then why they failed to file a petition over the issue after the period of 15 days was over," Murtaza said.
