Pakistan’s one of the most respectable personalities, Amjad Sabri has been shot dead in Karachi in the busy Liaqatabad area. The funeral prayers of renowned qawwali singer will be offered today (Thursday) in front of Iram Bakery at the Liaquatabad Road, Karachi and will be buried in the Paposh Nagar graveyard.

It is indeed disheartening for every Pakistani and the loss is immeasurable.

Eye-witnesses said that two unidentified gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire at his car while he was heading for the studio of a private television channel to take part in the Iftari transmission. Sources privy to police stated that at least eleven bullets were fired at the car with four penetrating the vehicle on the sides and six going through the windscreen, local media reported.

President Mamnoon Hussain condemned the attack. Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident and demanded report of the incident from Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah.

Fakhre Alam, the Chairman of the Sindh Board of Film Censors, claimed on Twitter that Sabri had earlier submitted an application for security, but the home department refused to follow up on it.

Amjad Sabri recited beautiful Naat ‘Aay Sabz Gumbud Waley’ in the Sehri Transmission of Pakistan’s private Television channel.
