WEB DESK: There was trend of sequels in Bollywood industry at zeal but now it seems like the trend of ‘remakes’ in making its way back to the screen.

It appears that the old clan classic, “Andaz Apna Apna” will get a remake by the courtesy of Phantom Films, who has bought the rights of the 1994 original. Phantom Films has acquired the remake rights from Preeti Sinha, the daughter of producer Vinay Sinha.

The film will be produced by Preeti Sinha and Phantom Films. Phantom Films is co-owned by Vikas Bahl, Vikramditya Motwane - of which one will direct the update - Anurag Kashyap and Madhu Mantena.

Mr Bahl is the director of films like Shaandaar and Queen while Mr Motwane has Lootera and Udaan on his credit.

The original film, a comic caper directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, featured an ensemble cast of Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor, Shehzad Khan, Viju Khote and Javed Khan with cameo appearances by Govinda and Juhi Chawla. Mehmood, Jagdeep and Deven Verma appeared in minor but crucial roles.

The reports suggest that Aamir and Salman, now 50 plus, will deliver their roles in the remake. The names of Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor were heard for doing the roles as replacements.

According to a source close to the development, the film will roll towards the year-end with a fresh cast.

"It will be an in-house director at the helm, if not Vikas (Queen and Shaandaar director Vikas Bahl), it will be Vikram (Vikramaditya Motwane of Udaan and Lootera fame)," the source added.
