ECB found Kaneria guilty; life ban imposed

LONDON: Former Pakistani Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria and his Essex team mate Mervyn Westfield have been found guilty of offences charged against them. The ECB, on Friday, further stated Kaneria had a huge impact in influencing Mervyn Westfield not to play to his best potential.

Westfield had earlier admitted to have received money and under-perform in a 40 over match between Essex and Durham in 2009. Westfield had further accused Kaneria to play as an agent between players and bookies.

The ECB panel concluded that Kaneria acted as a recruiter of spot fixers and significantly influenced Westfield to under-perform, knowing the fact that he was young and vulnerable.

Punishment with respect to the offence would be announced late on Friday.

ECB has banned Danish Kaneria from playing cricket within England after finding him guilty of the charges.

According to recent reports, the PCB will accept ECB's verdict and would also ban Kaneria from playing domestic cricket in Pakistan.
