According to a report, Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) head and former World Cup winning captain, Arjuna Ranatunga, was stripped of his "SLC chief" status after he opposed the Indian Premier League.

The Report has indicated that Ranatunga was sacked after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) pressurized the Sri Lankan government.

The Report adds that the former Sri Lankan captain, during his stint as the chief of SLC, stressed the early return of the Sri Lankan cricketers from the 2009 IPL edition. Ranatunga called for this early return because of the England Cricket Board's (ECB) offer for Sri Lanka to play a Test match series against England in 2009; but all of this was not possible as the scheduled dates were clashing with the IPL.

Although the Sri Lankan cricketers resisted Ranatunga's call, the BCCI called a Sri Lankan delegation in Bangkok to talk over the issue.

As per the report, "The meeting that lasted for approximately two hours ended with the BCCI adopting a very aggressive stance, stating that the forthcoming Indian tours that have been indicated in the FTP up to 2012, stand unconfirmed at present and stated that they are not ready for any negotiations or to compromise with SLC, as long as SLC's present hostile approach."

The BCCI also stated in the meeting that they were really shocked at Ranatunga's stance and his  opposing comments regarding the IPL at different forums.

After few weeks of the Bangkok meeting, Ranatunga was removed of the SLC chief's post by the Sri Lanka Ministry of Sports.
