Red warrant issued against Musharraf: Interior Ministry

A red warrant has been issued against the ex-Army Chief and former president of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf, a local news channel reported.

The Interior Minister Rehman Malik has been claiming to bring back Musharraf to be trialed for the late Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case.

The warrant was issued to Interpol headquarters in Lyon, France. After the issuance of the warrant Interpol is free to arrest and bring Musharraf back to Pakistan to be produced in court for Benazir’s assassination inquiry.

Weeks earlier, Interior Minister Rehman Malik publicized the detailed investigation report of the assassination of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He affirmed the senate that Musharraf will be arrested as soon as he sets foot in Pakistan.

He claimed that he will bring the former president back to Pakistan as he is a key offender in Benazir’s murder probe, as the investigation report has pointed out.

The deputy FIA Khalid Rasool handed the arrest papers to the Interior Ministry which forwarded it to the Interpol office in Pakistan. The warrant was issued VIA e-mail and post, it was later signed off by the officials and sent to the Interpol headquarters

Copies of the statements given by the then director-general of Counter Intelligence wing of ISI Javed Iqbal Cheema and former director-general of Intelligence Bureau of Pakistan Ejaz Shah have also been sent to Interpol.
