Chairman NADRA assures completion of electoral rolls in time
Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Ali Arshad Hakeem on Tuesday apprised the Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs that the voter lists would be completed in time and the accuracy would also be guaranteed on the basis of "one person one vote".
The Standing Committee on Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs met today under the Chairpersonship of Begum Nasim Akhter Chaudhry, MNA to discuss the various amendments proposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan in respect of:
(i) The Electoral Rolls Act, 1974, (ii) The Senate (Election) Act, 1975, (iii) The representation of People Act, 1976 and (iv) The Political Parties Order 2002, in order to hold Free and Fair Elections in the country.
He said the option will be given to voters regarding the place of the registration of the vote. Secretary Election Commission informed the Committee that the forthcoming elections would be held according to the authentic voter lists prepared by NADRA.
A Constitutional (Amendment) moved by Khurram Jehangir Wattoo MNA, was also discussed in detail regarding the approval of all treats, agreements and MOUs by the Parliament, related with the defense or cooperation in the field of defense. The Committee directed the Ministry of Defense to brief the Committee regarding the agreements and MOUs signed by the Ministry in the next meeting.
MNAs Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, S.A Iqbal Qadri, Sardar Muhammad Yaqub Khan Nasar, Nawab Mohammad Yousaf Talpur, Khurram Jehangir Wattoo and Naseer Bhutta attended the meeting.
