The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started the registration of eunuchs of Rawalpindi district as third gender from Wednesday.

According to an official of the ECP, as per directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan - a list of 249 eunuchs of the district was prepared for registering them as voter in the computerized electoral rolls.

He said only 17 eunuchs came to the office on Wednesday of which the names of only three eunuchs having Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) were enrolled in the Preliminary Electoral Rolls (PERs).

As many as 14 eunuchs were referred to NADRA for getting CNICs as it is mandatory for the enrolment of a voter in computerized voter lists, he said.

Now onwards, the registered eunuchs can also contest elections of provincial, national or Senate elections.
