AG tells no plans to remove COAS, DG ISI
Attorney General for Pakistan Molvi Anwar ul Haq on Friday rejected a petitioner's claim over prospects of sacking Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Ahmed Shuja Pasha.
He apprised the Supreme Court that the government had no intentions to remove both top officials.
He was appearing before a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in response to a plea moved by F.K. Butt, who also appeared in person.
Attorney General Molvi Anwar ul Haq drew attention to a statement of the Prime Minister over the issue and said that petitioner certainly had also information about the statement. He also maintained that the court should not rely on media reports and said the instant plea was not based on facts but mere speculations.
The Chief Justice told him that it would be better if this statement could be produced in written form.
The bench directed the Attorney General to seek concerned authorities' response and submit report within two weeks. The petitioner had stated that according to media reports, the government could sack both military officers over memogate issue.
