Pakistan capable of beating any team: Whatmore
Pakistan cricket team's “could be head coachâ€, former Australian Test batsman Dav Whatmore has expressed his faith in Pakistan team terming it a talented combination capable of beating any opposition.
The former Sri Lankan and Bangladesh coach, was interviewed here on Monday by Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Chaudhary Zaka Asrhaf and discussed with him what is believed to be the terms of his appointment as Pakistan's head coach.
"I have been closely watching the Pakistan team which possesses a lot of cricket talent which makes it capable of defying any opposition and producing desired results", he told reporters after the meeting.
To a question, the former Australian Test cricketer said if appointed, coaching Pakistani team would be a big challenge for him and his specific mandate would be to blend Pakistan into a winning combination by showing consistency.
"I have very productive and cordial meetings with the Chairman, PCB and other officials but it is premature to say that I have been appointed coach of Pak team, it is the PCB to make a final decision in this regard", he asserted.
He praised the recent performance of Pak team and gave team's victories credit to players’ hard work and talent.
Answering a question regarding the start of Test series between Pakistan and England from Tuesday at off shore venue UAE, he said "England is the number one team but Pak team can give it a tough time".
He said besides having a meeting with Chairman PCB, he had discussions with Chairman PCB coaching committee Intikhab Alam and chief selector Mohammad Ilyas.
"I am pleased to be in Lahore ", he said while answering a question. Whatmore would be leaving for Australia to join his family.
