Assemblies of Punjab, KP can only decide about new provinces: Nisar
Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday said constitutionally elected representatives and provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkwa have right to take decision about creation of new provinces in the country.
Speaking in the National Assembly, he said a party which has not a single seat in the provincial assembly of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkwa moved a resolution on new provinces.
He said PML-N was not against the new provinces but division of new provinces should not be based on linguistic basis as it would create disharmony in the country.
He warned that Punjab would absorb division on linguist basis but other provinces would not do the same. Chaudhry Nisar said that if the government was serious in creation on new provinces than it should set up commission and adopt constitutional procedure.
Leader of the Opposition alleged that slogans of new provinces were being raised to remove the public attention from important issues likes shortage of gas, electricity etc.
Giving clarification of Nawaz Sharif's statement on military courts, he said it was presented out of context as Nawaz Sharif was only referring to past, when military courts were established in Karachi in their tenure due to security situation.
He said PML-N was against any military courts and military operation in any part of the country and considered civilian government superior to any other institution.
