Inquiry Committee on Monday submitted an initial report on judges notification withdrawal matter in Supreme Court (SC).

The 17-member bench of SC, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry heard the suo motto case on the news of government plan of revoking the notification.

The bench in its order noted that the judiciary believed in rule of law and constitution and would always function according to the constitution.

The bench also directed the committee to correct the inappropriate extraction made in one of the paragraph contained in its preliminary report mentioning 'a standoff' between judiciary and executive.

SC has adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.
