Four killed in south India coast cyclone

Four killed in south India coast cycloneA cyclone off the coast of India's southern Andhra Pradesh state has weakened although heavy rains lashing the area have claimed four lives, officials said on Monday.
The cyclone made landfall on Monday evening causing torrential downpours in coastal districts, said M. Satya Kumar, who heads Hyderabad's weather office.
The authorities rescued 70 people stranded by floods, a government spokesman said.
According to preliminary information, more than 750 houses were damaged by the storm, he added.
Weather official Kumar said the region had been receiving heavy rains from late on Sunday and "more widespread rain or thundershowers are expected in the next 24 hours."
The seas off the Andhra Pradesh coast would be "very rough" and fishermen had been advised against venturing out, he added.
A spokesperson for the Andhra Pradesh government's disaster management department said about 15,000 people from low-lying areas in four coastal districts had been moved to 67 relief camps.
The administration has stocked rice and fuel and arranged the supply of food packets and water sachets in the camps.
Annual monsoon rains, which sweep India from June to September, have killed scores of people and caused extensive flooding in Andhra Pradesh in the past two months.
