17 killed, 23 hurt in Thailand bus mishap
At least 17 people were killed and 23 were injured after their bus skidded off the road and smashed into a tree in north-western Thailand on Saturday, police said.
The bus carrying 42 female sewing workers of a mattress company was travelling in Kanchanaburi, 130 kilometres (81 miles) north-west of Bangkok, police said, adding the bus driver was among the dead.
"The bus had a brake problem. It slipped and crashed into the tree," a police official said, adding police were investigating the cause of the accident.
