Bachchan in new health scare
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has undergone tests after a recurrence of an abdominal complaint that saw him admitted to hospital on his birthday last year, he said Wednesday.
The 66-year-old film star, who is treated like royalty in movie-mad India, wrote on his blog that he returned to Mumbai from Europe on Tuesday after developing "a pain in the stomach much like the one I got last birthday".
"I drove straight to my doctor on arrival late last night (Tuesday) and after some external physical examinations was subjected to CT scans this morning," he added.
"The results do not show anything, but the trouble exists, albeit on a much smaller scale than the last time ... I do not think that there is a need for alarm, but I do not want to take chances."
Bachchan was taken to a private Mumbai hospital in October with what was thought to be complications from a previous hernia operation and abdominal injury.
"The Big B", as he is known, nearly died from the original injury, which happened on the set of the 1982 film "Coolie".
Vigils were held outside the hospital and prayers for his swift recovery as he spent three weeks recuperating. The then-prime minister Indira Gandhi also visited his bedside.
