4.7-magnitude earthquake jolts parts of Punjab, Islamabad

A moderate earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck parts of Punjab and Islamabad on Tuesday, triggering panic among residents in several cities.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, tremors were felt in Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhelum, Phalia, Hafizabad, Okara and Sheikhupura.

The earthquake’s epicentre was located near Gujranwala, while its depth was recorded at 18 kilometres, the seismic centre said.

Residents in several areas rushed out of homes, offices and commercial buildings after feeling the tremors.

No immediate reports of casualties or property damage were received.

Authorities are monitoring the situation while officials urged citizens to remain calm and follow safety precautions during aftershocks.
