Iran has said that the Strait of Hormuz will not revert to its pre-war status under a possible memorandum of understanding with the United States, according to Iranian media.

Iran’s Tasnim News Agency said some Western media reports had inaccurately suggested the strategic waterway would fully return to normal within 30 days.

Instead, the proposed understanding only envisions restoring shipping traffic to pre-war levels during that timeframe, it said.

According to the report, Iran would continue to assert its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz through “various measures,” with additional details expected to be announced later.

Tasnim further reported that the proposed agreement calls for the complete removal of the naval blockade within 30 days.

It warned that if the blockade is not lifted, there would be “no change” to the current conditions in the strait.

The report added that any broader easing of maritime restrictions in the waterway would also depend on the United States meeting other obligations outlined in the proposed memorandum.
