The Karachi-based media executive is the only Pakistani currently serving on the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences
Pakistani producer, director, and media executive Dr Umair Haroon has joined the jury of the 2026 International Emmy Awards Competition, a first for Pakistan’s media industry.
The appointment follows his election to the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS), making him the sole Pakistani representative currently serving on the Academy.
The International Emmy jury is a rigorously vetted panel of television professionals from over 60 countries, responsible for evaluating programmes and performers entered into the competition. Dr Haroon joins a panel that includes CEOs of global distribution houses, presidents of major networks such as Warner Bros., Gaumont, and Showtime, top show-runners, and Oscar-winning producers.
Speaking about the honour, Dr Haroon said: “Pakistani television has a rich tradition of storytelling, from classic dramas that defined eras to bold, contemporary narratives tackling real issues. I am immensely proud to represent a creative community that brings authenticity and depth to the global screen.”
He added that he intends to use the international platform to highlight the intellectual and cultural depth of Pakistani storytelling.
