Police have released the son of a woman police officer who was arrested following a scuffle with personnel during snap checking in the Defence area, officials said on Saturday.

According to investigators, the suspect was freed on personal surety and will be presented before a court for further legal proceedings.

Taking notice of the incident, SSP South Mahzoor Ali appointed SP Clifton Khalid Javed as the inquiry officer.

Departmental action has also been initiated against Sub-Inspector Shehzan Shakeel, who was allegedly involved in the altercation.

Police said a formal investigation began after a video of the clash and alleged manhandling surfaced.

The SSP South has directed the inquiry officer to conduct a complete and impartial probe, review all available records, and identify those responsible.
