Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of a dedicated cybercrime unit to tackle online harassment and blackmail targeting women and children, marking a major step towards digital safety in the province.

Under the initiative, victims will no longer need to visit police stations or offices to file complaints. Special mobile units will reach complainants directly, ensuring easier access to justice and greater protection.

Officials said complaints can also be registered through a virtual police station, front desk services and a dedicated “PKM” mobile application. Authorities assured that the identity of the victims will remain strictly confidential.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister, where it was also agreed to begin work on a draft of the Punjab Online Safety Act 2026.

The government additionally approved the creation of a cyber police wing and a cyber police academy to strengthen enforcement and capacity-building.

CM Maryam directed authorities to adopt a proactive approach against cybercrime, including the development of modern intelligence and monitoring systems.

She described cybercrime as a major and growing challenge requiring urgent and sustained action.
