The central and zonal moon sighting committees will meet today (Thursday) to observe the crescent for the month of Shawwal.
However, experts suggest that the likelihood of spotting the moon on Thursday is low, with a strong possibility that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 21 after a 30-day month of Ramazan.
The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Kohsar Block in Islamabad.
The meeting will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
During the meeting, evidence received from different parts of the country will be reviewed, and a final announcement regarding the sighting of the Shawwal moon will be made.
Meanwhile, Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meetings will also be held in Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi, and Quetta.
In Karachi, the Zonal Committee meeting will take place at the Meteorological Department office, chaired by Allama Hafiz Muhammad Salafi. The meeting will begin after the Asr prayer.
Apart from the members of the zonal committee, the Director of the National Tsunami Centre, Amir Haider Laghari, and other officials from the Meteorological Department will also participate in the meeting.
According to SUPARCO, the chances of sighting the Shawwal moon are very low, leading to a strong possibility of Eid-ul-Fitr being observed on March 21.
However, the final announcement regarding the moon sighting will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
