Iran has launched the 54th wave of Operation Promised Truth against Israel, deploying the ‘Sajil Strategic Ballistic Missile’ for the first time in practice, according to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

The 54th wave, named ‘Yazhara,’ is part of Iran’s counterattacks following the US-Israel military campaign against the country.

Iranian media claim the Sajil missile targeted Israeli government command centres and key military installations.

The Sajil is a solid-fuel missile with an estimated range of 2,000 to 2,500 kilometres and a speed over Mach 13.

Its quick launch capability allows rapid deployment against distant targets. Analysts say it could reach countries including Egypt, parts of Sudan, Ukraine, southern Russia, western China, India, and areas across the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

Al Jazeera notes that the name ‘Sajil’ refers to a stone, while Iranian sources link it to a Quranic event in Surah Al-Fil describing the destruction of an attacking army with stones.
