Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Wednesday said the use of Afghan territory by militant groups against Pakistan is “unacceptable,” reaffirming that the country will take all necessary steps to defend its sovereignty.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations, the Field Marshal visited Wana in South Waziristan to review the security situation along the western border and assess operational preparedness.
Upon arrival, he laid a floral wreath at the martyrs’ memorial and offered prayers. He paid tribute to soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the country, saying their sacrifices form the foundation of Pakistan’s security and stability.
During the visit, the Field Marshal received a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing security environment, intelligence-based operations and border management measures.
He was also updated on the progress of Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq and recent developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The briefing included discussions on challenges in border areas and ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
Field Marshal Munir met officers and troops stationed at forward posts and praised their professionalism, vigilance and high morale during recent clashes.
He expressed full confidence in the combat readiness, coordination and resolve of formations deployed along the border.
He stressed that Pakistan’s armed forces are fully capable of responding to all threats and that no compromise would be made on national security.
The Field Marshal said Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan were using Afghan soil to carry out terrorist activities against Pakistan, calling it unacceptable.
He warned that all necessary measures would be taken to eliminate cross-border threats and reiterated that lasting peace would only be possible if the Afghan Taliban prevent their territory from being used against Pakistan and cease support for militant groups.
