The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday sentenced a lawyer to six months in prison after he displayed threatening and inappropriate behaviour toward a female civil judge.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the lawyer for contempt of court.
The judgment, issued by Justice Ijaz Anwar, said the accused, Asadullah advocate, a member of the District Bar Association Swat, had threatened Civil Judge Fauzia Naseem and used inappropriate language.
The lawyer allegedly tried to pressure the judge to deliver a favourable ruling.
The court noted that despite repeated orders and a requirement to appear and respond, the lawyer failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or comply with judicial directives, which led to the imposition of the sentence.
In addition to the six-month prison term, the court also imposed a monetary penalty of Rs100,000 on Asadullah advocate.
